Campers can create their own air tent with Zempire’s new Shapeshifter Range
- by Matt McIvor

Hamilton, New Zealand — Zempire Camping, renowned for its innovative outdoor gear, has launched a revolutionary new modular air tent series that allows campers to create their own air tents. The new Zempire Shapeshifter Series offers campers the freedom to add or remove modules to adapt to different campsite sizes, group numbers, or personal preferences.
Designed to transform camping with air tents, Zempire’s new Shapeshifter Series comes in two models: the Shapeshifter 6 and Shapeshifter 4. Each model features three core modules — a Sleeping Module, Living Module, and Awning Module — that can be configured to create a bespoke air tent setup. These inflatable modules zip together, giving campers the freedom to choose how their tent is arranged, how many people it can sleep, and how spacious or compact it is for smaller campsites or quick getaways.

The Sleeping Module is the foundation, sleeping up to four (Shapeshifter 4) or six (Shapeshifter 6) campers. With blackout-coated fabric for sleep-ins, large mesh windows for ventilation on warm nights, and near-vertical side walls, the Sleeping Modules offer a luxurious outdoor sleeping experience. Campers can double their sleeping capacity by adding another Sleeping Module to their Shapeshifter setup — sleeping up to 12 campers in a Shapeshifter 6 configuration with two Sleeping Modules.

The Living Module can be zipped onto the fly and floor of the Sleeping Modules, or onto the fly of the Awning Modules, to create a fully protected living space. With tall head height and near-vertical side walls, it provides an extremely spacious area to relax or enjoy meals away from the elements. Its large three-way windows and two protected side-access doors offer premium light, ventilation, and indoor–outdoor flow. These side-access doors can also be linked to connect the new Shifterbase 2 Air Shelter to the side of the Living Module, creating a weatherproof connection between the air tent and gazebo. The Living Module also includes a flat wall to fully enclose the space for complete weather protection.

The Awning Module zips onto the fly of the Sleeping and Living Modules to create a spacious vestibule area. With full head height and vertical side walls, it too offers the luxury of space for campers to move freely. Three-way windows allow precise control over airflow, light, and privacy. These modules are the lightest in the range, with the smallest packed size for easy carrying and storage.
Zempire CEO and Founder Richard Knauf is keen to launch the series which is truly unique to the camping market:
“The Shapeshifter Range has been a long time in the making. We wanted to perfect the bespoke patented technology behind its new modular design to ensure Zempire was offering a camping solution to the market that is truly unique. It was a lengthy and detailed process to ensure campers could rest easy knowing every connection point is ultra-strong and completely waterproof — from the floor to the fly. After extensive testing, the results exceeded even our expectations.”

The Shapeshifter Range features Zempire’s new Aeroweave 170 denier ripstop synthetic canvas fabric — a solution-dyed polyester that is lighter, more durable, and more UV resistant than standard tent fabrics, with exceptional tear strength. This fly fabric boasts a robust 6,000mm waterhead rating and has been torrential rain tested. The entire structure stands strong thanks to Zempire’s new Dyno-Wrap Air Frame, featuring extra-large air tubes sewn directly into the fly, which can be easily inflated with a manual or electric pump.
Knauf is excited to introduce the new fabric and airframe to Zempire’s air tent range.
“Our new Aeroweave Synthetic Canvas is something truly special. It offers the same premium feel and impressive tear strength as traditional canvas, yet it’s far lighter — making it easier to transport, pack away, and dry if it gets wet. Plus, it’s solution-dyed for reduced water use during production and exceptionally fade resistant, ensuring it looks great for years of sunny adventures.”

To accompany the Shapeshifter Range, Zempire has also unveiled a new air gazebo — the Shifterbase 2 Air Shelter. Designed to complement the Shapeshifter Range, it also features the Aeroweave Synthetic Canvas fabric and Dyno-Wrap Air Tubes, with the ability to connect to the Shapeshifter Living Module’s side doors via a link add-on. The shelter is lightweight at approximately 11.5kg and packs down small for easy transport to campsites, beaches, or events. With open dimensions of 2.6m x 2.6m and a maximum height of 225cm, it provides a spacious covered area for relaxing while staying fully protected from rain or sun.
Alongside the Shifterbase Air Shelter, the Shapeshifter Series is supported by a range of add-ons that integrate seamlessly with each module to enhance the setup. These include Awning Wall Sets for additional shade and protection, Heat Shield Liners to reduce internal temperatures, Footprints to protect tent floors, Ground Sheets to extend the covered floor space and Bedroom Pods to sleep two extra campers.
Knauf says the entire Zempire team and their retail partners are particularly excited about this launch:
“We haven’t been this excited about a launch in a long time. With the Shapeshifters, we get to see our Zempire fans design their own dream setups using the modular system. We can’t wait to see the combinations they create — it’s an amazing feeling to give our diehard campers the freedom to build their perfect setup, their way.”
