What's the difference between a footprint and a ground sheet?

Footprints protect the bottom of your tent by sitting directly under your tent floor.Ground sheets for tents will do the same and extend out to your awning area for additional floor space. Shelter ground sheets will offer a protected floor space underneath your shelter.
